Poem -- Be You

You are just you, That is truer than true, There is no one, I tell you,  Who is truer than you.  You will always be you; No matter what you do; However hard you try, It will come back to you.  Staying up till late at night, Just to look cool; But they are others competing too, In the small world of school.  God has just given us life; How to live it is our own choice; No matter what the others say, Listen only to your inner voice.  Shreya

Asking for direction -- We just have forgotten what true education is. Would we like to find out? Would we really?

There was once a man. His friend and he wanted to visit his old dying Granddad. So they set off on a journey. When they got off the train at the village’s local train station you wonder which direction u have to go to reach your granddads house. You pause your journey to ask a random stranger for some direction. “What way is to Mr. Granddad’s house please?” you ask the random stranger. “Some 4000 km straight and then take a left.” He nonchalantly nods while telling you. You are beyond baffled. How is that possible? “I am sure you are mistaken kind sir…he lives in this village. Are you sure it’s that way?” you ask the kind, random stranger. “Well yeah. You are in the village, but the direction you are going in you will have to map the whole world before reaching his place however if u turn back it’s only 2 km straight and then take a right. Now chop chop I don’t have the whole day. Move your lazy bellies out of my way.” Not so kind after all you think. It’s funny how i

My Colony -- Home to only me, or to the street dogs too?

At a young age, my experiences of going out of my house to play with my friends created a stereotype in my head that street dogs are dangerous and they bite, though I did not know the reason for the dogs biting. I could not even bear my grandmother’s dog licking me because it seemed to me like he had bitten me.  As I got older, I met different people with pet dogs in their homes; I became comfortable with them. Then my best friend rescued a pup. I visited him often and watched how he took care of her. Soon I was able to pet her, have fun with her even holding her up close to my face. I did not know then that one year later, I would be adopting one of her pups.  As I started getting comfortable with dogs, one autumn, I noticed that dogs in my colony have started a spate of attacks. Unable to bear it, I eventually asked my mom the reason for these frequent attacks. The answer I got was  “Dogs bite mostly when they are on ‘heat’, for they are very energetic at that time.”  D

Madhuban -- Sri Aurobindo Ashram, where I am one with nature, and all the different parts of my being work in harmony.

Madhuban is my favorite summer destination. It is an Ashram retreat spread over a mountain, overlooking a valley. Wherever you stand in Madhuban, you see the same panoramic view. A beautiful valley, dotted with huts and a small river flowing through it. The river has run almost dry over the years. The estate is an orchard and usually the plum and apricot trees are fruiting in summer when we arrive and we help in the plucking. This year there were early rains, temperature dropped and so the fruits did not ripen during our stay. As you walk around you see flowers everywhere. You see flowers of all colors and sizes. For example around Sri Aurobindo’s Samadhi there were huge spherical balls made of small purple and blue flowers. There were white and yellow lotuses blooming in a pond. Outside Prashanti, the workshop hall, the highest block of buildings in this campus, were red roses. One of my favourite places in the ashram is the swing in the space below the dining

# Epiphany -- I am the one I should love in this world

It was my first day at my new school. I joined in class seven. In my new class there was a group of really good looking girls and guys; I refer to them as “the popular gang of class seven.” The girls had their hair done well, they had flawless skin and neat and clean nails. Of course they all had done waxing and all those things to remove arm and leg hair. I admit, the guys were quite good looking, and most     probably all the girls in class seven (including me) would have had a crush on them at least at one point of time. Now, it all started when I interacted with one of them. I don’t want to mention his name but I will call him Mr. X for now. I developed a secret crush on him and if I still had it right now, I would have written a whole paragraph about his looks.   I liked him anyway and was desperate to look good and get into the gang so he would like me too. So I decided to try to look good for him, thus leading me into buying crop tops that looked awful on me because I
